Many people have experienced the law of God used like a weapon. It is often used to point fingers, expose faults, and condemn others, while the person holding it somehow exempts themselves from the same scrutiny. That spirit is not new. It was present in the days of the Pharisees, and it still shows up today.
But Jesus made His mission very clear. John 3:17 says, “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” Christ did not come to condemn the world. The world was already condemned because of sin. He came to rescue it.
This is important for us to understand because it reveals the true purpose of God’s law. The law was never given so that we could stand over others in judgment. The law was given to teach us. Romans 3:20 says, “for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” Galatians 3:24 explains further, “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”
The law is a teacher. It shows us the truth about ourselves. It reveals that we have all fallen short of God’s perfect standard. It shows us that we cannot earn our way into heaven by our own goodness or effort.
And that realization is not meant to crush us. It is meant to guide us.
The law points us directly to Jesus.
When we recognize our need, we begin to understand the beauty of grace. The law reveals the problem, but Jesus provides the solution. He came to save sinners, to restore broken lives, and to offer forgiveness and new life to anyone who will come to Him.
This truth should fill us with both humility and hope. Humility because we remember that we too needed mercy. Hope because we know that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace.
When we speak to others about sin, our goal is not condemnation. Our goal is restoration. We want people to see their need for the Savior who loves them enough to rescue them.
His name is Jesus Christ.
Salvation is not about casually mentioning His name or attaching religion to our lives. It is about knowing Him. It is about a real relationship with the One who gave His life so we could be forgiven and made new.
Today, let the law do what God designed it to do. Let it humble your heart, remind you of your need for grace, and point you again to the cross. There you will always find mercy, forgiveness, and the open arms of a Savior who came not to condemn, but to save.
And when you walk in that grace, you will naturally extend it to others.
That is how we live from grace to grace.
