“O taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him.”
— Psalm 34:8
There’s a quiet truth we so often are unwilling to admit. The reason we keep turning back to the world? Because, somewhere deep inside, we are not yet fulfilled in God continually.
That doesn’t mean He isn’t enough. It means we haven’t yet learned to rest in the fullness of who He is.
We don’t run to the world because we’re terrible people by the worlds standards; we run because our hearts are still hungry. And when the soul is hungry, it will feed on whatever is near.
So we chase comfort. We crave approval.
We cling to pleasure — or even good things like family, work, or ministry — yet they can never satisfy the longing that belongs only to God.
The truth is sobering but kind: our problem isn’t self-control — it’s satisfaction. We seek from the world what only His presence can give.
The Deeper Need
You cannot fix a spiritual hunger with worldly food.
You cannot quiet an anxious heart with more noise.
You cannot heal loneliness with busyness or distraction.
Our hearts need what only time with God can give. His presence isn’t just a passing calm, it is the source of peace itself.
When we rush through prayer or skim the pages of Scripture, our souls begin to wander.
Not because we’ve stopped believing,
but because we’ve stopped abiding.
The Way Back to Fulfillment
The only way to stop running to the world is to linger longer with the One who made it.
When you truly know Him — not just know of Him — you stop craving the shallow things. As long as we live in this flesh, we’ll still feel the pull of sin, but it no longer has dominion over us once we’re in Christ.
It’s both spiritual and human, the only thing you can truly hate (because your spirit does) and still kind of want (because your flesh does), yet never truly want to do. Like Paul said, “The things I don’t want to do, those I do.”
Now that Christ’s Spirit lives within us, we can’t “want to” sin without feeling conviction, because His Spirit is always opposing the flesh. Our minds may tell us it’s something else we want, but that’s the lie. Deep down, all we really crave is Him. That’s why nothing else ever satisfies. True contentment can only be found in Him.
Steal away a quiet moment with His Word.
Talk with Him, not just about your needs, but about your love for Him.
Sit still long enough for His peace to rise within you. Breath Him in.
Just as a husband who adores his wife isn’t drawn to another, the heart that knows God deeply will not go searching elsewhere.
For the more time you spend with Him, the more everything else fades in the light of His goodness.
Go Deeper
We were never meant to live in the shallows of faith.
We were created to dive deep, to be filled with His Spirit, anchored by His Word, and sustained by His love.
If you’ve felt restless lately, maybe nothing is wrong with your life…maybe it’s simply that you’ve drifted from the Source.
God’s invitation still stands:
“Draw near to Me, and I will draw near to you.”
The closer you come, the quieter the world becomes. And when your soul is finally satisfied in Him — truly satisfied —you’ll see, that what you were chasing all along… was always Him.
