“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”— Lamentations 3:22–23
There’s something sacred about the quiet of the morning. The world hasn’t yet demanded your attention. The noise hasn’t begun. And in that stillness, you find something that never ran out yesterday, the mercy of God.
Jeremiah wrote these words at one of the darkest moments in Israel’s history. The city of Jerusalem was in ruins, the people were in exile, and it seemed like God had turned His face away. Yet even in the ashes, Jeremiah found hope, not in circumstances, but in the character of God.
He realized that the reason we’re still standing today is not because of our strength, but because of His mercy. Every failure you thought disqualified you, every sin you thought destroyed you, every storm that should have sunk you, God’s mercy said “No.” His compassion held you together when you were coming apart.
And then Jeremiah adds something breathtaking: “They are new every morning.”
God doesn’t recycle yesterday’s mercy. He gives you a fresh portion today, just enough grace for what you’ll face, just enough strength for what lies ahead. Yesterday’s struggles don’t deplete today’s supply.
That’s why every sunrise is a sermon. It preaches: “You’ve been given another chance.”
No matter what last night held, doubt, fear, failure, or pain, morning comes with new mercies and a faithful God who never changes.
So take a deep breath today. Don’t rush past His goodness. Let gratitude reset your heart. The same God who was faithful to Jeremiah, who carried Israel through their darkest hour, is the same God carrying you now.
Because His mercies never end.
And His faithfulness never fails.
